In the second half, Park played much better, with Kelsey Agather playing a great all-around game, with several blocks and a ton of rebounds.

Cianna Edwards had a great pass to Mara Daly for a layup to pull Park to within 13, 27-12, and shut down the Spring Lake Park offense over the last two minutes, but could only score one more basket themselves, an 18-foot bomb by Daly.

St. Louis Park Girls 8th Grade vs. Orono

Park played a tough 2-3 zone that led to tons of turnovers, and the Orioles beat Orono 32-24.

The first few minutes went back and forth, highlighted by some great play by Megan Sawatzky, who had several early rebounds and two blocks, and baskets by Marae Pelton-Lipson, Cianna Edwards and Kelsey Agather.  Park did a great job of moving the ball with precise passing, and a jumper by Keanna Fox tied the score at 10-10 midway through the half.  Park took it’s first lead of the game at 12-10 on a basket by Sawatzky, then went on a 10-point run highlighted by a nice rebound and put-back by Fox.

Orono battled back and had a 6-2 run to end the half, trailing only by two, 22-20.

Orono came out strong in the second half, and scored hit two free throws to tie the score at 22.  Park cranked up their defense, and made three great steals, by Fox, Laura Pederson and Sawatzky that led to easy baskets, and Daly had a beautiful assist to Sawatzky who hit a deep jumper and the Orioles started to pull away.

With the score 38-24 with less than four minutes to play, Orono missed three straight possessions, with Park getting every rebound, and Agather scored on a rebound and put-back, and Edwards hit a jumper at the buzzer to make the final score 32-24 Park.

The name of the game was defense and rebounding, with Agather grabbing 9 boards to lead Park, and Edwards adding 6.  Sawatzky made five steals, Fox had four, and both Sawatzky and Agather blocking a shot each.
