Storm Squirt Bs fall to Orono in semi-final, 2-1.

Our gutty Squirt Bs fell, 2-1, in a defense-dominated thriller at the Brooklyn Park ice arena Monday night, falling a game short of the district championship game.
The Storm outshot Orono 15-14, but could only muster one goal, a beauty by Christian Doss to tie the score at one apiece with 5:42 left in the first period. Orono went ahead 2-1 midway through the second period, and held on to win.
The Storm had plenty of chances to score, but the Orono goalie, like the Storm goalie, Bennie Burke (who stopped 12 of 14), was making saves left and right.
The Storm had shots hit the pipe, miss just wide on a deflection–stick saves, gloves saves, “all kinda” saves by the Orono tender!
The Storm defense was outstanding throughout, with Teddy Hoppman, Willie Gleason, Carsten Ingvoldstad, and Phoebe Warner leading the way.
The final minutes of the game were full of drama. With 8:07 left, the Storm killed a penalty, and had a great chance to tie the game, shorthanded, but the Orono goalie made a great glove save.
Orono had several nice shots on the power play, but Burke made three huge saves down the stretch, one with 2:00 left that gave the Storm one last shot to tie the game. Unfortunately, Orono did a great job of stopping the Storm’s offensive rhythm, and the clock ran out on the game and season. But what a season it was!
I was especially impressed by the skating skills of Henry Feldman and Lexi Robello, two of the fastest Squirts around, and the way the entire team used the boards and chased the puck. Burke played great between the pipes all year, and it was obvious that the coaching was outstanding.
Congratulations on a great season!
